Racial justice within the immigrant rights movement has not always been a popular discussion topic, due to varied socialization processes mostly guided by white supremacy and western standards around race, privilege and class. For many immigrant rights organizations, the concept of race and gender have been consciously excluded in order to appease decision makers and mainstream America creating many times deeper racial divisions between African Americans, Latinos and Latinas, Arab Americans, etc.
Radio Diaspora talks to several community leaders and activist that have been using a racial justice and human rights framework to address issues that migrants and their families face in the United States, the conditions that they face and the contradictions of many of the bills, the response from immigrant rights leaders as well as a phase that is now emerging in the immigrant rights movement.
